Media reporting noted that a (ambitious) strategic aim of the Roadmap (prepared by consulting firm AFRY) is to enable Mauritania to capture up to 1.5% of the global hydrogen market and up to 1% of the global green steel market by 2050. Media reporting indicated Mauritania has unveiled plans for large-scale projects aimed at producing 12.5 million tons of green hydrogen annually by 2035.  Information on planned large-scale projects in Mauritania can be found on a Mauritania Energy webpage for green hydrogen.

Media reporting noted that the National Assembly enacted a new law in September 2024 to introduce a regulatory framework for the development and operation of green hydrogen projects in Mauritania; the reports indicate the Green Hydrogen Code establishes the legal, tax and customs regime for developing and operating green hydrogen in the country.
