Hydrogen and Ammonia Roadmap
April 2025 (Search under heading ‘Publications in the Field of Various New and Renewable Energies’)
The national hydrogen strategy covers the current condition, direction and goals of hydrogen industry development in Indonesia. Media reporting indicates the strategy notes that the direction of hydrogen industry development and use in Indonesia considers three factors, amongst others:
- Supporting the use of new and renewable energy,
- Supporting decarbonisation efforts and Indonesia’s commitment to mitigating global climate change, and
- Indonesia’s potential as a hydrogen hub.
Media reporting of the Hydrogen and Ammonia Roadmap indicates three phases of industry development:
- 2025-2034: focus on pilot projects, regulations, incentive schemes, financing, infrastructure development, and skills development (includes development of electrolyser capacity of 0-734 MW by 2030). Blending of hydrogen in gas network projected to reach 20%.
- 2035-2045: focus on increasing commercial production capacity, hydrogen blending in the gas network projected to increase to 40%, capacity of 100% ammonia-based power generation projected to reach 2.0 GW while hydrogen co-firing projected to reach 60% by 2045.
- 2045-2060: targets achievement of 100% hydrogen blending in the national gas network, capacity of 100% hydrogen-based power generation (gas turbines) projected to reach 25.3 GW by 2060, capacity of ammonia-based power plants at coal-fired power plants projected to increase to 8.4 GW
