While cancer treatment can offer hope for recovery, its side effects can be debilitating or even life-threatening. One of the most common problems experienced by kids undergoing treatment is infections, with the most severe type of infection being sepsis. Waiting over an hour to start antibiotics after a fever, increases the chance of a longer hospital stay, intensive care visit, or even death. We combine wearable technology and machine learning to create a prediction model for infection experienced during cancer treatment. This will enable earlier intervention, improve health outcomes, and reduce treatment costs for the health care system.
