MUSE Team
Australia’s vast geography and dispersed population create challenges for cost-effective waste-to-energy solutions. The CSIRO/RMIT’s MUSE team has developed a mobile, continuous biodiesel production technology designed for small to medium waste cooking oil (WCO) producers. By processing WCO on-site, the system removes transport costs and avoids expensive steps like acidification and filtration.
Its low-temperature operation and regenerable catalyst make it efficient and sustainable. This innovation enables producers to generate biodiesel and other valuable products, eg, bio-lubricant and glycerol, locally, making recycling more economically viable.
The team is now exploring market opportunities to scale the technology across regional and urban Australia.
