Half a million Australians struggle to access health care because of language barriers. Inefficiencies in current interpreting services for health care result in limited availability in medical consults and clinicians relying on unvalidated translation systems. Our solution (Medivox) is an AI-powered digital medical translator that delivers reliable, instant and accessible interpretation for patients who do not speak the same language as their treating clinicians in order to enhance patients’ understanding of health information. In fact, we have validated our idea with 100 stakeholders, developed a prototype, and we are now testing it with linguistically diverse patients, clinicians, and health executives.
