Farming With Microbes
With the growing global demand for food and fibre, the pressure to boost agricultural productivity through eco-friendly, resilient, and sustainable approaches has never been greater. Microbial products – living microbes or their bioactive derivatives – offer a promising alternative to synthetic chemicals, yet adoption remains limited due to uncertainties around their reliability and compatibility with existing farming practices.
At CSIRO, we’re advancing how microbial solutions are developed, validated, and implemented under real-world conditions. By addressing key barriers to uptake, we aim to build grower confidence, reduce dependence on synthetic inputs, and unlock the potential of microbials in Australian agriculture.
