CSIRO has implemented a new, online high-performance data analytics platform (aka. DataCube), that ‘turbo-charges’ our capacity to process vast amounts of Earth observation and other geospatial data, for use in research and commercial services and to support and grow Australia’s digital economy.
Calibration and validation (cal/val) is essential to both understanding and quantifying the quality and accuracy of Earth Observation data products. Australia has significant advantages for cal/val activities, with a clear atmosphere, several natural calibration targets, unique soils, hydrological conditions and vegetation systems.
A project is underway for the design, build and data application requirements for Australia’s first infrared cubesat. It is intended to be an Earth observing satellite for scientific research purposes, optmised for Australian conditions, as well as a technology demonstrator for advanced on-board data processing capabilities.
