Project description

In May 2022, it was announced that AUD$2 million was to be awarded to Westcoast Renewable Energy to support a feasibility study and early development costs. Hydrogen end-use options include supply for use in Tasmania, as well as export to mainland Australia and overseas markets.

Based on accessed publicly available information, the near-term strategic project focus of the proponent is on the Whaleback Ridge Renewable Energy development.  This (wind project) development was awarded major project status by the State Government in March 2024 with the Gazetted materials noting the production of this renewable energy would present opportunities for the development of renewable hydrogen production and e-fuel facilities. As and when greater details emerge on a full chain hydrogen project development, a review of its listing would be undertaken.
