Project description
This project is developing a renewables-based hydrogen production facility planned to be located in Hastings, Victoria.
This project will provide a source of renewable hydrogen to support the adoption of fuel-cell-based power systems in stationary and mobility applications.
The hydrogen production facility will include a 1-megawatt (MW) electrolysis system with a maximum hydrogen production capacity of 425 kilograms per day (if operating at 24-hour capacity).
Renewable energy for the electrolyser will be sourced via the grid primarily during low demand / low price periods, thereby helping reduce the cost of hydrogen production and contributing to grid stability. Production will be scaled according to demand.
The project proponent has ordered key hydrogen production equipment. Offtake is contracted to Coregas and will replace fossil fuel-based hydrogen currently coming into Victoria from New South Wales.
In July 2025, Energys announced it had received planning approval for the hydrogen production facility at Hastings. The release noted that, under a strategic agreement, Coregas will operate the site and manage all downstream logistics including compression, liquefaction, cylinder and trailer filling, and distribution to end users. Hydrogen produced at the Hastings facility will be marketed and sold under commercial terms through Coregas.
Operations are anticipated to commence in 2026.
The Victorian Government is supporting the Energys Renewable Hydrogen Production Facility through an award of AUD$1,000,000 through its Renewable Hydrogen Commercialisation Pathways Fund.
