Project description

The project is planned to generate approximately 9,750 GWh per annum from renewables-based sources to produce 958,500 tonnes per annum of ammonia. The renewables-based hydrogen and ammonia production project is to be located at Gove in the Northern Territory.  The project would benefit from the pre-existing infrastructure including, amongst other things, a port and a seawater intake, which are projected to meet the needs of the proposed (renewables-based) hydrogen and ammonia facility.

The project proponent advises that the project feasibility and pre-Front End Engineering Design (FEED) studies were completed in the first quarter of 2024. The basic engineering design phase of the FEED study has already begun, with kick off meetings held with various engineering contractors. It is expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2025. Further detailed engineering phases are planned to commence in the first quarter of 2025.

The project proponent has advised of the following major engineering and other project developments to date:

Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs)

  • In May 2024, Allied Green Ammonia signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Plug Power Europe SAS to supply up to three gigawatts of proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyser capacity for hydrogen production;
  • In May 2024, Allied Green Ammonia signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Air Liquide Global E&C Solution Japan Ltd to collaborate in the engineering and supply of a cryogenic nitrogen generator for the project;
  • In May 2024, Allied Green Ammonia signed a Memorandum of Understanding with SPG Steiner GmbH of Germany to provide a basic engineering and design package to support FEED and supply of ammonia storage tanks for the project;
  • In June 2024, Allied Green Ammonia signed a Memorandum of Understanding with TATA Consulting Engineers TCE to provide a solar power and infrastructure basic engineering design package to support FEED for the project. TATA Consulting Engineers will work as an electrical contractor for the supply of renewable power to the (renewables-based) hydrogen and ammonia production facility;
  • In June 2024, Allied Green Ammonia signed a Memorandum of Understanding with AFRY Switzerland Ltd to act as AGA’s Owner’s Engineers to provide engineering support services on the design of the renewable energy production system and infrastructure development;
  • In July 2024, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed with Huansheng Solar PV Co. Ltd for the supply of approximately seven million (equivalent to 4.75 GW) solar panels;
  • In July 2024, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed with Cooling Towers WA Pty Ltd for the supply of sea water-based cooling towers for thermal cooling of the electrolysers and chemical plants;
  • In July 2024, Allied Green Ammonia signed a Memorandum of Understanding with NACAP Australia Pty Ltd to collaborate on the construction and installation of 36 inch & 58-kilometre long hydrogen pipeline and infrastructure;
  • In July 2024, Allied Green Ammonia signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Flowserve Australia for the supply of cooling tower water pumps;
  • In August 2024, Allied Green Ammonia signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Nextracker Australia Pty Ltd to supply and design the single-axis solar tracking system for the Project’s solar farm;
  • In September 2024, Allied Green Ammonia signed a Memorandum of Understanding with ABB Australia to collaborate on the supply of major electrical components, including RMUs, substations, and inverters, for the solar farm and supporting infrastructure for hydrogen electrolysers;
  • Allied Green Ammonia has selected Trina Solar for the supply of 1600 MWH/day Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) Battery Energy Storage System and (as of 24 October 2024) are in the final stages of executing a Memorandum of Understanding.

Cryogenic Ammonia Off-take and Export MOU with Trammo SAS

Land Access Agreement

  • In August 2023, Allied Green Ammonia signed an interim land agreement with local landowners, Gumatj Corporation, in support of the provision of a long-term lease on freehold land and access to enabling infrastructure: https://territoryq.com.au/gove-goes-green/
