Inspiring the Next Generation – October 2019

STEM Professionals in Schools is a annual CSIRO event that connects STEM professionals with students and teachers to bring STEM into the classroom. Jennifer Zhu from the CCEO took part, alongside CSIRO’s Chief Information Officer Brendan Dalton and the Federal Member of Parliament for the seat of Fenner, Andrew Leigh MP.

In front of an excited group of Grade 2 students at Kingsford Smith Primary School, the three guests were quizzed on their career, their favourite subject at school, their studies, and much more. There was even a big fluffy microphone to record responses that will be turned into a podcast. Space, fascinating for kids and teachers alike, was the topic of discussion and the students had a chance to see the model of CSIRO’s NovaSAR-1 satellite. Now equipped with their very own NovaSAR-1 cardboard cutouts, the class is able to build their own tiny version of the satellite!
