Our Research

Our focus is to develop methods that support the acquisition of geological and geotechnical knowledge and that reduce the uncertainty of that knowledge. Uncertainty in geological and geotechnical knowledge can adversely affect safety and diminish mining productivity.

Reduction of uncertainty of characterisation of mining condition to lessen hazards, downtime or unexpected changes in production can be achieved by:

  • Developing new methods of acquiring data more effectively and accurately;
  • Enhancing the use of data so as to identify deleterious effects of uncertain or missing data and
  • Integrating various data and information to support decision making for minimising impacts on mine productivity and safety.

We aim to develop integrated approaches and algorithms to present, analyse and/or interpret geological, geophysical data for improved understanding of geological and geotechnical models, which may have different implications to mining activities.
