3D Situational Awareness

February 4th, 2020

3D Situational Awareness technology is a patent-pending multi-camera real-time platform developed by the CSIRO’s Data61 Robotics and Autonomous Systems Group.

The technology provides real-time situational awareness for factories and it is being developed in the largest factories in the world. This technology utilises off-the-shelf security cameras, network hardware and computers to create 3D blobs of anything moving in the environment as well as for vehicles that have a target placed on them for individual identification.

Vehicles such as AGVs have this target placed on them so that they can be remotely supervised by the system to identify the following;

  • Vehicle going off path
  • Objects placed on vehicles path
  • Advanced 3D collision detection
    • Adding extra sensing to the standard 2D scanner systems on the AGV’s

The system offers a low cost and scalable option to providing real-time situational awareness for:

  • AGV and people safety
  • Material and vehicle material flow
  • Early factory fault detection

This system allows identification of people from the blobs to be disabled, offering a privacy sensitive option to track movements around the environment.

Watch this space as we add greater functionality and options to the technology.

We are open to explore opportunities for research, development, and commercialisation.
