Nutrition and Health Substantiation
Nutrition solutions for better health
Australians are living longer than ever before, but 1 in 2 (50%) Australians are living with at least 1 of 8 selected common chronic conditions such as cardiovascular disease, mental health conditions, and diabetes (AIHW, 2018). With increased rates of infectious diseases like COVID-19 and SARS, the world is facing a serious double-burden of disease with significant implications for death rates, disease burden and our health care system.
There is truth in the adage, “prevention is better than cure” and indeed, healthcare systems are shifting from illness treatment to holistic wellbeing management. CSIRO’s Future of Health Report
Nutrition plays a critical role in preventing disease, improving health and wellbeing and resilience against infectious diseases.
With our specialist knowledge of how nutrition impact gut, cardio-metabolic and brain health and in collaboration with national and international partners, we have delivered impact through product innovation and substantiation for the agri-food, nutraceuticals and health/wellness sectors.
Our activities span the entire substantiation pipeline – from scoping new product concepts, profiling the nutritional composition and functionality of products, to pre-clinical and human clinical trials to test the health effects and developing evidence dossiers to support health claims on products.
