Roadway stability

Roadway stability is an outstanding challenge in deep mining. A significant problem is the excessive deformation which makes it very difficult for the normal support system to be effective. Key factors affecting roadway deformation must be fully recognised for adequate design principles to be developed. As an example, the dynamic loading process of roadway support and key factors that affect the roadway stability in deep mining conditions are shown in the figure below.
