Longwall gas emission prediction

Sufficient gas emission prediction from different coal seams of a longwall is critical to effective longwall ventilation and gas management strategies. Most of the current specific gas emission prediction methods used in Australia are based on European empirical models. Predictions based on these models have shown high discrepancies in comparison actual gas emission measured.

This team in conjunction with our colleagues from the Mine Safety and Health Team has jointly developed a new gas emission prediction model for Australian mining industry based on local mining conditions and operational experience. A significant feature of this model is that it takes into account the changes in reservoir conditions and gas flow environment due to mining.
