Darwinian evolution as the basis of robot design process

David Howard, one of the Research Scientists at the Robotics and Autonomous Systems Group at CSIRO Data61 recently wrote an article for The Conversation about how the team is using Darwin’s theory of evolution to build robots that can adapt and learn on their own.

Robots would be incredibly helpful in “unstructured” environments such as rain forests or to assist responders following a natural disaster, as these environments are unpredictable and uncontrollable.
