Forecast

Australia’s operational ocean forecast model, the Ocean Modelling and Analysis Prediction System (OceanMAPS), is run daily by the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM). The model was developed in a joint effort between CSIRO and BOM under the Bluelink partnership, building upon the BRAN reanalysis technique.

OceanMAPS has been run operationally since 2007.

OceanMAPS Version 3 forecasts are near-global (75 N to 75 S), eddy-resolving (0.1 degree grid spacing), and stretch out to 7 days. No tides or sea-ice are included.

Daily forecast products for the Australian region can be viewed on the BOM’s website: Sea Temperatures and Currents.
