Aus4Innovation Innovation Partnership Grants Round 4 Recipients
Cutting-edge technologies, capable of enhancing agricultural efficiency and promoting sustainable practices in Vietnam, are at the forefront of the successful recipients of Round 4 of our Innovation Partnership Grants.
A total of AUD $1.45 million has been awarded to three successful projects aiming to change the landscape of agricultural farming practices across the country.
With the complexities of modern agriculture in mind, this round sought proposals that leverage high-tech solutions to enhance agricultural productivity, market development for agricultural outputs, climate change adaptation and mitigation efforts, and social inclusivity, ultimately benefiting smallholder farmers.
Winning Projects
- Improving crop monitoring and access to information by smallholder farmers and government decision-makers in Vietnam
- Funding Amount: AUD 487,719
- Partnership: University of Southern Queensland and Vietnam National Space Center
- Project Overview: This initiative will develop an advanced geospatial technology platform to provide crucial information on crop health, biomass, potential yield, and other vital attributes to farmers and decision-makers throughout Vietnam, with the primary goal of boosting agricultural efficiency and productivity.

Proactive carbon farming with AI and digital twins for sustainable agriculture in Thanh Hoa Province
- Funding Amount: AUD 480,658
- Partnership: Griffith University and Hanoi University of Science and Technology
- Project Overview: This project is set to introduce an AI-powered digital twin platform to optimise agricultural practices, enhance carbon storage, and create new income opportunities through AI-verified carbon credits, aligning with Vietnam’s goals for sustainable agriculture and carbon market development by 2028.

Empowering smallholder farmers through AI-powered certification and traceability for sustainable agriculture in Vietnam
- Funding Amount: AUD 480,134
- Partnership: Griffith University and Vietnam’s Commission of Standard, Metrology, and Quality
- Project Overview: With a focus on Responsible AI and digital systems, this project will employ data streams and complex event processing technology to continuously monitor and analyse farming practices. It seeks to overcome issues such as inefficiency, lack of standardisation, and inadequate traceability by ensuring consistent adherence to high standards and integrating green productivity instruments.
Outcomes
Each of these projects illustrates the innovative vision and potential of collaboration between Vietnamese and Australian institutions. They not only represent advancements in agricultural technology but also reflect a shared commitment to sustainable development and social equity.
About the grant application process – round 4
The competition for this round of grants was fierce, with 81 Expressions of Interest received. The three grant recipients have up to 24 months to complete their projects, which are anticipated to transform different areas of agriculture through advanced technology.
