Welcome to the Team Vassili Kitsios!

July 16th, 2019

Since joining the team, Vassili has been developing a technique that uses the natural modes of the atmosphere to both improve the signal to noise ratio in the CAFE system and also explain physical processes. One such physical process is the Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO). It is a tropical intra-seasonal phenomena resulting from the interaction between large scale convection over warm regions in the ocean, and atmospheric wave dynamics. Using the natural modes of the atmosphere we can isolate its three-dimensional spatial structure, and demonstrate its relationship to convection.
