NovaSAR-1 Workshops
Invitation to CSIRO’s NovaSAR-1 Workshops
Geospatial Intelligence Pty Ltd is running a series of NovaSAR-1 workshops on behalf of CSIRO. The workshops will be conducted virtually and are designed to build understanding of SAR and the utility of NovaSAR-1 data, promote discussion on the challenges and opportunities of using SAR, and provide a forum for exploring research collaborations. There will also be an opportunity to complete a survey to help inform CSIRO about future SAR support, activities and training needs. If you are looking to introduce NovaSAR-1 into your workplace or want to increase your skills and connect with other SAR users, these workshops are for you.
Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) imagery provides a unique perspective in Earth Observation (EO) and is growing in popularity in the remote sensing world, particularly due to its ability to image through cloud or smoke cover, day or night. Recognising the potential of SAR data for the Australian EO community, Australia’s national science agency, CSIRO purchased a 10% share of NovaSAR-1 tasking and acquisition time, providing Australia with direct access to data from one of the world’s most innovative SAR satellites. This is the first time Australia has managed its own source of SAR Earth observation data, contributing to the growth of EO application development in Australia using the unique capabilities of SAR data.
Please note these workshops will be recorded and discussion points/survey responses will be used to provide feedback to CSIRO on Australian use of NovaSAR-1 data. All responses will remain anonymous.
We will be using NovaSAR-1 data in these workshops. The End User Licence Agreement (EULA) details the conditions of use of NovaSAR-1 data distributed by CSIRO. By registering for this workshop, you are agreeing to the terms of this EULA.
Workshop Schedule
Workshop No. | Description | Dates |
Workshops 1 & 2: Intro to SAR | The Intro to SAR workshops are designed for novice SAR users who work in the EO sector. You should have a basic understanding of GIS systems and Remote Sensing to get the most out of this workshop. In the Intro to SAR workshops we will run through basic SAR concepts and an introduction to NovaSAR-1 before working through a tutorial to get you familiar with using SAR data. |
Workshop 1: 10AM – 12PM AEDT, 14th February 2023 Workshop 2: 2PM – 4PM AEDT, 23rd February 2023 (Click here to sign up) |
Workshops 3 & 4: SAR Intro+ | The SAR Intro+ workshops are designed as an extension to the Intro to SAR workshops however they can be a stand-alone workshop for people with prior experience working with SAR.The SAR Intro+ workshops will include a review of material covered in Intro to SAR but with a more in-depth look into SAR processes and processing techniques. We will also run through an advanced tutorial using NovaSAR-1 or Sentinel-1 data. |
Workshop 3: 10AM – 12PM AEDT, 28th February 2023 (Click here to sign up) Workshop 4: 2PM – 4PM AEDT, 9th March 2023 (Click here to sign up) |
Workshop 5: Intro to SAR+ | Due to popular demand, Geospatial Intelligence Pty Ltd is running an extra NovaSAR-1 workshop on behalf of CSIRO. The Intro to SAR+ workshop is designed for novice SAR users. You should have a basic understanding of GIS systems and Remote Sensing to get the most out of this workshop. In the Intro to SAR workshop, we will run through basic SAR concepts and an introduction to NovaSAR-1 before working through 2 tutorials to get you familiar with using SAR data. If you have already attended a previous workshop the same material will be covered so please |
