Stimulating Gas Generation: R2T
Much of the gas present within Australian coal seam reservoirs has been derived through microbial processes degrading a small fraction of the coal. We have conducted a substantial program of work with multi-party industry support to investigate the stimulation of this natural process to increase the rate of gas generation and the gas resource of existing well fields. Our work has focused on laboratory studies under reservoir conditions of pressure, temperature using intact core samples of coal. An important aspect of this has been monitoring of the water quality during the stimulation process.
