Outreach: Mock interviews for engineering students at Griffith University

May 12th, 2020

Les Overs, our Advanced Mechatronics Team Leader, was invited by Griffith University at the Gold Coast to support their mock interview workshop for engineering students (Griffith Women in Engineering GC and IEEE student branches).

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, Dominique MacDonald, an Undergraduate Electrical and Electronics Engineer, organised the event to be held online this year, allowing company representatives present from IBM, Cisco, Griffith Digital Solutions, Boeing and and is, from CSIRO’s Data61, to participate.

A mock interview mirrors an actual job interview and gives students an opportunity to know what to say and do during an interview and get feedback. It is a useful tool to help students review their answers to common interview questions, while having other factors such as their resume, outfit, mannerisms, and body language assessed, revealing their strong and weak points and helping boost their self-confidence.

Les participated in the mock interviews acting as an interviewer whilst having the opportunity to connect with some of Griffith University’s top engineering students, and increase our engagement with the university.

Events such as this, as well as technical visits of our facilities & robots, guest talks, and competitions are just some examples of our outreach initiatives.
