Designing soft robots by designing their materials

October 10th, 2018

Project description

A PhD top-up is available (through a competitive process) to work with the Robotics and Autonomous Systems Group at Data61 in designing soft robots and robotic materials.

Materials will be optimised via Machine Learning and used as a library of possibilities to be included into robotic structures, which will be created, modeled, and controlled in reality.

This is an opportunity for PhD students to immerse themselves in an innovative environment and to gain valuable skills and experience that you won’t find anywhere else.

This placement is for up to 36 months plus in duration and it will provide you with access to our leading scientists and mentors, real-life experience working in the robotics area while completing your PhD study.

Requirements and eligibility

To be eligible to apply you must have (or expect to gain):

  • first class honours or equivalent in a relevant research area;
  • admission to an Australian University as a PhD student;
  • a Research Training Program (RTP) scholarship or university equivalent; and
  • an university supervisor who is willing and able to supervise you.

If you have already commenced your PhD studies, you must be less than 12 months into your PhD at 1 January 2019.
