Responsible Innovation Future Science Platform
From 2019 to 2025, CSIRO’s Responsible Innovation Future Science Platform (RI FSP) was a dedicated research initiative that systematically and scientifically assessed the risks, benefits and uncertainties of our future science and technology.
In response to the accelerating pace of innovation, the RI FSP developed new research capabilities to help ensure emerging technologies, such as AI, quantum technologies, genetic engineering and climate solutions, are responsibly designed and delivered for the benefit of all Australians.
Through rigorous and applied scientific inquiry, the FSP created impact in three key ways:
Discovery: Road-testing responsible innovation across CSIRO’s future science portfolio through practical research focused on societal benefit.
Differentiation: Building an evidence base for where, how and why responsible innovation delivers value.
Delivery: Identifying actionable ways to embed responsible innovation in science and society.
This pioneering work established responsible innovation as a core scientific capability within Australia’s national science agency.
