Our projects
Our research is advanced through projects and collaborations with Australian biosecurity stakeholders and commercial partners.
Safe Trade
Our key research collaboration is the Safe Trade project, supported through Hort Innovation with co-investment from industry and government partners.
Safe Trade aims to support a transformational improvement in the way trade-related plant biosecurity risks are managed in Australia. Its focus is to protect Australia’s biosecurity and optimise safe trade for horticulture industries across domestic and international markets.
The four year project (2023-2027) is a unique partnership between CSIRO, all State Governments, the Northern Territory Government, the Australian Commonwealth Government and the horticulture industry. The project will enable a set of innovative scientific methods and models to be co-developed by CSIRO and project partners to inform risk management decision making and enable new ways of utilising data to enhance biosecurity.
Funding acknowledgement: The project Modernising phytosanitary risk management for biosecurity and safe trade (AM21002) is funded through the Hort Frontiers strategic partnership initiative developed by Hort Innovation, with co-investment from CSIRO, Apple & Pear Australia (APAL), Fruit Growers Tasmania, all Australian state governments, the Northern Territory Government and contributions from the Australian Government.
Managed Pathways
Managed Pathways is a collaboration between CSIRO and the Australian Government Department of Agriculture Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF). The collaboration supports the further development and implementation of improved risk science tools to inform biosecurity and market access decision making within the Australian Government.
An important activity is the co-development of the Menu of Measures Resource, which will provide guidance regarding commercial and phytosanitary measures that could be considered within pest risk analysis and market access protocols.
