Data: National bushfire extent data
Bushfire extent data or burnt area data tells us where, when and how frequently fire has occurred.
National bushfire extent data can be used for effective response coordination and informed decision-making to mitigate and manage future bushfire risks at a national level.
The goal is to produce spatial products that harmonise authoritative bushfire extents into standardised national formats.
This national data effort commenced through the Bushfire Data Challenges Program for the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS)-funded Australian Research Data Commons and the work has continued through the National Bushfire Intelligence Capability, funded by the Australian Climate Service, with key contributors being Geoscience Australia, EMSINA and CSIRO.
The data are available nationally, to governments, industry and the general public.
