Conservation assessment and planning
CSIRO has an accomplished record of delivering innovative biodiversity modelling solutions to support conservation policy, planning, and management. By partnering with Government agencies, NGOs and international bodies, we help inform effective conservation policy, planning and management through the provision of targeted biodiversity models and analyses. Some examples of our research includes:
- Assessing the current representativeness of Australia’s National Reserve System
- Identifying priority areas for new ecological surveys
- Developing and applying a new approach for remotely assessing habitat condition for biodiversity
- Assessing past to present biodiversity change in forested ecosystems
- Comparing alternative strategies for configuring protected areas
- Identifying priority areas to conserve unique biodiversity features
