Project description:
Origin Energy and Kawasaki Heavy Industries are collaborating to assess the potential of a green hydrogen production facility in Townsville, Queensland. Following completion of a feasibility study in 2020, the proponents are focussed on developing a commercial-scale, export-oriented project, targetting first exports in the late 2020s to early 2030s.
In August 2021, ENEOS Corporation announced that it had concluded a memorandum with Origin Energy to conduct a study on a potential business collaboration for the development of a CO2-free hydrogen supply chain between Japan and Australia; the release noted the two companies would jointly examine the potential for the reliable supply of affordable hydrogen made with renewable energy in Queensland.
