Enabling world’s best environmental monitoring
eDNA is a simple and game-changing way to monitor the natural environment. But we need libraries of DNA sequences ('DNA barcodes') of species to match eDNA fragments found in the environment.
We are initiating a National Biodiversity DNA Library for Australia’s most important species. And we’ve developed the technology to make it happen.
At CSIRO we have created a miniaturised high-throughput genome skimming platform that can generate DNA barcodes for any type of organism.
We are now in a position where it’s possible to create a DNA barcode library to realise the potential of using eDNA for its myriad possibilities.
We propose to achieve this significant goal by 2030 by working with a consortium of end-users, biodiversity and biosecurity experts, state and federal governments and philanthropic organisations.
