Wheat in a fieldDigiscape Social Dimensions researcher Aysha Fleming and her colleagues have published the results of their investigation into the ways that Australian farmers and other grains industry stakeholders perceive “big data” and how big data might change the industry. They identified two main, competing discourses among stakeholders: (1) big data as a technology that will significantly benefit only a few larger farms or businesses versus (2) big data as a way for every farmer to benefit.

The full paper in Agronomy and Sustainable Development unpacks these discourses: it’s open-access and you can find it here.
