First app for the visually impaired developed by Vietnamese
While mobile apps for the blind is no longer the news, VnBEyes is the first of its kind developed by and specifically for Vietnamese people.
VnBEyes is designed to assist visually impaired people to actively read from printed documents, electronic documents, or bulletins on the Internet, and recognize Vietnamese currency denominations. With VnBEyes they can use smartphones without any additional devices or external help.
The brains behind the app are from the Department of Information Technology at Le Quy Don Technical University. The team applied speech recognition technology (Speech to Text – STT), image processing, and speech synthesis (Text to Speech – TTS) to increase user-app interaction, ensuring independent and convenient use by the blind.
At the AI Tech Matching session during the AI4VN event – Vietnam’s leading platform for AI tech, VnBEyes was one of the five initiatives selected as having the most potential for application and is receiving funding from Aus4Innovation to enter the market.
