Sustainable Consumption and Production Team

The Sustainable Consumption and Production Team views sustainability as a diverse characteristic of whole systems and fundamentally about the long-term. We are concerned with how society produces and uses material, water, energy and land resources, from the level of the suburb to international trade, from everyday consumables and recycling, to embedded impacts in buildings and long-lived assets. We work with industry and government to enable system-thinking in strategy, action and monitoring efficient allocation of resources for sustainable consumption and production. More information on the integrated environmental-economic tools that we have developed to inform effective decision-making is available here.

The Sustainable Consumption and Production Team research has informed state, national and international policy on mitigating climate impacts, urban development, industrial ecology, resource decoupling and the circular economy. The Team has a combination of diverse scientific expertise, data, and approaches, that provide a wide range of sustainability assessments.
