Tell us about yourself....
In 2002, I finished one of my Master’s degrees and started my professional career as a research engineer in ETRI, South Korea. I had developed a Korean OCR (optical character recognition) engine successfully for automated mail sorting systems. I had a chance to study Software Engineering more deeply, and I finished another Master’s degree in 2008. After a couple of years, I moved to Australia with my family and joined Lexxe Pty Ltd as a Senior Software Engineer. My responsibilities included developing a sentiment search engine using sentiment analysis technologies. As a new challenge, I have been with Data61 as a Senior Software Engineer since October 2018.
What gets you excited about your work?
In the last year, I lately joined a US Army project, “Assessing the Security and Compliancy of ROS-M Applications”. Within a short period, I developed a Machine Learning (ML) based software vulnerability detecting module. Including this module, our team demonstrated our novel ML and Natural Language Processing (NLP) expertise, and US Army was very interested in the optimistic outcomes. Consequently, we started a new US Army project, Crypto Function Detector, and I have worked on cutting-edge ML and NLP technologies for this project. Working on advanced technologies always makes me awake and excited. Moreover, strong supports from colleagues and the organization make me even happier.
