I hope that I can stay in academia after completing my Ph.D. I find that doing research with different scholars is interesting, which can always give me new insights.

  • Tell us about yourself,

I am currently a Ph.D. student in the School of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of New South Wales and co-supervised by the AAP team in Data61. My supervisors are Qinghua Lu, Liming Zhu, and Hye-Young (Helen) Paik. Before joining UNSW and Data61, I received my B.S. and M.S. from China University of Petroleum (East China). My research topic is the design of software architecture for governance-driven blockchain systems.

What gets you so excited about your work/projects?

The broad use and adoption of blockchain in diverse traditional areas have raised the awareness of governance in this technology. The lack of proper governance methods may hinder the development or even harm the interest of blockchain and its stakeholders. We study this topic with the aim to give our solution from the perspective from software engineering, integrating the governance patterns into architecture design.

Top three professional areas, Blockchain governance, Blockchain as a service, Software architecture.

Top three skills, Programming, Problem-solving, Critical thinking.

Awards and Accolades, University Postgraduate Award (UIPA) from UNSW

How is your PhD going to change the world?

I learned that CSIRO’s Data61 has many researchers collaborating with both academia and industry, and this can give students good opportunities to engage and experience different research processes with professionals.

Tell us about your CSIRO's Data61 experience?

I found that the working atmosphere is relaxing. The researchers will give you insightful suggestions and help whenever you have a question. I believe it will be a great journey to work with them throughout the PhD career.

If you are less than 12 months into your PhD journey, what are you looking most forward to?

This is my first year of Ph.D. I think the most important thing now is to absorb the knowledge from existing works in the research area, to clearly identify the research gap and form a solid base for future study.

What are your plans after completing your PhD?

I hope that I can stay in academia after completing my Ph.D. I find that doing research with different scholars is interesting, which can always give me new insights.
