Industry PhD Training Framework
The iPhD Training Framework presents a depiction of the skills envisaged to be necessary for a PhD graduate to successfully traverse industry and academia. The skills are classified into five learning areas and spread across 17 skills categories. These are to be accumulated over the lifespan of the PhD candidature through a mix of professional development (e.g., the Industry Engagement component and professional networking) and formal training (as delivered through the iPhD Journey Map).
The iPhD Training Framework aims to instil the business and IP knowledge, innovation and commercialisation skills, in addition to stakeholder management skills that researchers need to collaborate and work across the university and industry sectors. These include understanding the drivers of research in industry while demonstrating project management and communication skills to deliver impact from research.
