Deep learning helping make fishing more sustainable
Yesterday, the SCOPE program from Network10 aired an episode on our sustainable fishing project WANDA®, a software which uses advanced mathematical and computing techniques such as deep learning – a subset of AI (Artificial Intelligence) – to automatically detect and identify fish species, helping make fishing more sustainable.
WANDA® is the product of a CSIRO research collaboration between its Oceans and Atmosphere and the CSIRO Data61’s Imaging and Computer Vision Group, with the Australian Fisheries Management Authority (AFMA) providing imagery to train the new software.
