Project summary description:
The Kwinana Energy Transformation Hub (KETH) is a key project being undertaken by the Future Energy Exports CRC (FEnEx CRC). In August 2022, it was announced that the project had entered its Front-End Engineering and Design (FEED) stage. Luth Eolas Pty Ltd, a FEnEx CRC spin-off company, has been established to develop and operate the KETH facility. The facility will provide a low-risk live environment for demonstrating new technologies and processes to support decarbonisation of liquified natural gas (LNG) production as well as assist the development at scale of the emerging hydrogen sector. The facility will include:

  • 2 MW PEM hydrogen electrolyser producing up to 800 kg/day of hydrogen
  • fully instrumented 10 tonnes per day small-scale LNG plant
  • Small scale LNG and renewable hydrogen facility
  • Sustainable certification and testing facility
  • Highly instrumented live-plant training environment

In August 2022, Luth Eolas Pty Ltd announced that it had awarded a FEED contract to a partnership comprising of Valmec Australia Pty Ltd and Kent.

In July 2023, Future Energy Exports CRC and Luth Eolas announced the Investment Attraction Fund Grant for the KETH project of AUD$15 million from the West Australian Government.

A final investment decision is anticipated in 2023.
