Project description
The Hydrogen Park Gladstone (HyP Gladstone) project would produce renewable hydrogen using water and renewable electricity from the local electricity grid, employing a 175 kilowatt (kW) Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolyser.
The renewable hydrogen would be blended with natural gas, at volumes of up to 10 per cent, for supply to more than 770 residential and business customers on Gladstone’s entire gas network. The project also aims to supply hydrogen for transportation uses in the future.
The HyP Gladstone project builds on the 5 per cent blend to be supplied to homes from the Hydrogen Park South Australia project, and at up to 10 per cent would be the highest volume of hydrogen delivered by an existing gas network in Australia.
Site selection and detailed engineering has been completed with the Development Application lodged in May 2021.
It is anticipated that hydrogen production would begin in 2022.
