Project summary description:
Hydrilyte® is a metal hydride suspended in mineral oil. Suspension in oil insulates the hydride from potential reactants, enabling storage under ambient conditions and making it safe to handle. Being a liquid and inert, it can therefore be cheaply stored and transported using existing liquid fuels infrastructure, such as oil tanks, fuel trucks and crude carriers.

The TRL6 Hydrilyte® Technology Pilot is benchmarking the reaction rates, energy requirements, stability and purity levels for the Hydrilyte® hydrogen storage process at scale. It will provide an empirical levelized cost of hydrogen storage and transport for use by hydrogen project developers. The Hydrilyte® Lab is undertaking materials science and engineering research tasks that are optimising Hydrilyte’s® performance characteristics across a range of applications.

Hydrilyte® has application for hydrogen purification, buffering and transportation services for use in existing hydrogen industries including, industrial gasses & industrial chemicals; emerging industries such as green iron (and other metals) production; and potential hydrogen markets such as energy storage and energy export.
