FIRE RISK ANALYTICS
The Fire Risk Analytics team in Data61 uses spatio-temporal analytics, mathematical modelling and numerical simulation to provide government and industry partners with actionable information around the risk of fires and the optimal ways to mitigate these risks. Our usual focus is vegetation fires: i.e., bushfires, grassfires, wildfires. We have recently applied our expertise to Victoria’s combustible cladding rectification program for residential buildings. The combustible cladding work demonstrates the applicability of our methods and expertise beyond bushfires.
We are part of CSIRO’s broad and scientifically rigorous offering in understanding natural disasters and mitigating disaster risks. We integrate with capabilities across the organisation: particularly with bushfire scientists and the team behind the development of the Spark Wildfire Toolkit. We provide research-backed services and collaborate with government departments, electricity business and forestry companies throughout Australia as well as in the Americas.
