About the NBDL
The NBDL is a nationwide, multi-partner initiative led by a team within National Research Collections Australia at CSIRO.
We’re generating and providing access to vast DNA reference data to transform biodiversity and biosecurity monitoring in Australia by enabling the fast, accurate and scalable identification of Australia’s species from environmental DNA (eDNA).
Our data is sourced from and linked to trusted voucher specimens held in Australia’s public museums and herbaria, ensuring the associated species identities remain accurate over time.
We’ll bring enduring national benefit by powering the uptake of eDNA to describe and detect changes in our environment, such as detecting pests before they become established or monitoring our rare and threatened species, and amplifying the key role of our national collections in understanding Australia’s immense biodiversity.
