Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing
Here’s a vase we made using a weld torch attached to a robot. The robot follows a toolpath to build up metal, layer after layer. Wire arc additive manfuacturing, or WAAM, allows steel parts to be 3d printed quickly, and with a larger robot arm, very big parts can be made. While the equipment used is quite simple (just a standard robot arm and a MIG welder), creating effective toolpaths and controlling the process are two challenges that need to be overcome. These are the problems that Continuous3D solves!
