New CASDA Release and Cutout UI Service

September 21st, 2022

The CASDA team has been hard at work adding new features and fixing issues over the last few months. A new version of CASDA was released today which incorporates all of this work.

One major piece of work is to move off the old CASDA infrastructure to new machines at the Pawsey Supercomputing Centre. We have now completed the move of data access modules and the CASDA database to new virtual machines at Pawsey. The move to virtual machines provides a more stable, reliable and easier to manage service for CASDA. We thank Pawsey for their help with this work and providing the virtual machines on their NIMBUS server.

We have also implemented a new image/cube cutout service through the CASDA Data Access Portal UI. This service provides cutouts of selected curated datasets from ASKAP. The initial dataset available is from the Rapid ASKAP Continuum Survey Data Release 1 (AKA RACS-Low). This dataset is described in Hale at al. 2021 and comprises uniform mosaicked tiles from the first RACS survey. More curated datasets from the various ASKAP Survey Science teams will be added to this cutout service in future.
