Artificial Intelligence as an assistant for ophthalmologist
AI in healthcare can provide benefits to the diagnostic process, thus increasing the efficiency of the whole treatment.
AI has proven to be a helpful hand for medical staff in data analytics and administrative tasks. But researchers are taking a further step by discovering new ways to utilise the tech in the healthcare industry, including diagnosis and medicine development.
EyeDr is a software solution applying AI to help doctors with an additional diagnostic tool to screen and treat Glaucoma more efficiently and quickly.
Glaucoma is a common eye condition where the optic nerve, which connects the eye to the brain, becomes damaged. There are several ways to determine whether a patient has Glaucoma, one of which is optic nerve assessment where the optic nerve will be examined with a scan.
With a colour image of the optic nerve, EyeDr can help identify signs of Glaucoma, a disease that can lead to loss of vision if not diagnosed and treated early. In addition, EyeDr also helps simulate and localise lesions of Glaucoma on the scan images, preparing for effective treatment afterward.
Considering the potential impact of EyeDr, Aus4Innovation is funding this initiative within the framework of AI4VN, Vietnam’s leading platform for AI tech, to bring it closer to clinical application.
