AEB Director heads to annual meeting of the Global Future Councils 2024

Dr Robert Speight, Director of the Advanced Engineering Future Science Platform, represented CSIRO, Australia’s national science agency, at the Annual Meeting of the Global Future Councils Dubai 15-17th October 2024 as part of his role on the Global Future Council on the Future of Synthetic Biology. 

Robert commented that this was an amazing opportunity to connect with world leaders in synthetic biology, discussing some of the major impacts and regional expansions, as well as the future direction of the field. The meeting also provided ample opportunity for many of the 30 different councils to come together and share ideas and impacts. They covered topics as diverse as artificial intelligence, clean air, net zero, and advanced manufacturing, .

As well as attending, Robert also moderated the session Betazone: Precisely Where Needed. This session showcased the development of treatments and associated prevention of diseases tailored to the individual, highlighting where precision medicine has only just scratched the surface of its full potential to push the innovation boundaries in healthcare. It considered how technological advances, scientific knowledge and multi-stakeholder collaboration will shape an equitable and effective future for precision medicine.
