This year our booth was extremely busy with curious stargazers eager to find out more about our telescopes and their latest discoveries.Since its inception in 2009, Astrofest has become one of the largest science events in Perth. Each year visitors enjoy an evening of entertainment, information and family fun with telescopes, talks and the opportunity to talk to astronomers. This year, CSIRO worked with SKA Australia to set up a new booth all about the SKA. We were lucky to have visiting engineers from the SKA Organisation (based in the UK) in town who volunteered to work on the booth and share their knowledge with the public.

CSIRO astronomer Tim Galvin gave a talk about his career in astronomy and the challenges he overcomes on a daily basis working with a vision impairment.

Dr Jimmi Green and Dr Andrew Cameron spent the evening showing how astronomers use the Parkes Telescope to hunt for pulsars.

We also gave some young astronomy enthusiasts a virtual walk around the ASKAP telescope.

Astrofest is held annually ‘Curtin Stadium’ and Edinburgh Oval, off Kent Street, Bentley. The stadium is situated on the east side of the Curtin University campus.
