I am a principal research scientist in CSIRO Data61. I also hold a conjoint A/Professor with the University of New South Wales (UNSW). Having worked on distributed systems for over 20 years with focus on performance and security, I have 2 patents, 180+ publications and 15+ PhD students, including 10 successfully completed.
I am also active in research communities through journal editorships, keynote/invited talks and conference PC/Chair services, such as IEEE ICWS, ICSOC, ICBC. My current research interests include software architecture, blockchain and data sharing platform.
What qualifications led you to this role?
I have a PhD in Computer Science, from the University of New South Wales (UNSW), 200.
What are your top 3 professional areas?
1. Distributed Systems
2. Service Computing
3. Application Security
What opportunities has Data61 created for you?
• Explore new technologies: as early as 2016, we were asked to evaluate blockchain technology for Australia government, which not only led to a few in-depth blockchain evaluation reports, but also inspired our blockchain R&D, making AAP become one of the most impactful blockchain research group Australia-wide and internationally.
• Engage with students: through the Data61 PhD scholarship program, vacation internship and my association with Australian universities, I have opportunities to educate and inspire the next generation of engineers/scientists, not only making contributions to Australia high education, but also refreshing myself in terms of knowledge, skills and working spirit.
• Make impacts by tackling real problems: through working closely with our customers, industry partners and CSIRO other business units, I can approach to various application domains, understand their need, and make impacts by tackling the real problems.
Why do you like working at CSIRO's Data61?
CSIRO's Data61 is best place to do applied ICT research in Australia.
