  • Tell us a bit about your self?
I am currently a Ph.D. student in Computer Science from Swinburne University of Technology. Being a Ph.D. student, I focus on applying computer science to solve health issues. My research topic is to discover relations among diabetic treatments in temporal data. Different combinations of diabetic therapies, including different insulin injecting times, calories of a meal, or even kinds of exercises, may lead to totally different blood sugar for the same diabetic patients. My research aims to find out a suitable strategy to control blood sugar at a healthy level. My research interests include optimisation, fuzzy logic, machine learning, decision making, association rule mining, and health prediction.

What gets you excited about your work?
When I first notice data mining, I am shocked by the way it works. It seems data mining can find everything beyond data, especially some inherent connections or relationships among people and objects. Also, some medical applications of data mining inspire me. It is said that data mining algorithms can predict danger during a surgical operation before a surgical expert. Then, I believe data mining and computer science can do everything, and I would like to participate.

What are your top 3 professional area's?
    1. optimisation
    2. fuzzy logic
    3. association rule mining.

How is your PhD going to save the world?
I want to change medical diagnoses more convenient and individual-friendly. People’s daily healthy data will be automatically collected and protected in person. People will have health risks before they become unhealthy.

Tell us about your CSIRO's Data61 experience?
My experience in CSIRO’s Data61 is exciting. People are very friendly and warm-hearted. My supervisor in CSIRO’s Data61 also taught me a lot about research. What have you discovered about CSIRO's Data61 that you did not know? CSIRO’s Data61 provides more than research sources of CSIRO. I noticed that there are also lots of courses or other sources recommended by colleagues.

What are you looking most forward to?
I would like to improve my research skills, and summarise all my previous work to solve more health issues.

What are your plans after completing your PhD?
CSIRO inspires my interest in research. I want to join in research teams / universities after my PhD.
