Quantum Communications in Australia
The ‘National Quantum Strategy – Building a thriving future with Australia’s quantum advance’ was launched in May 2023 by the Minister Hon Ed Husic MP and Dr Cathy Foley AO PSM, and provides a clear policy for all the national stakeholders involved in quantum technology. In this framework, quantum communications has an important role.
We have seen a rapid increase in interest in quantum communications technology, so in response to this and to the National Quantum Strategy, the Quantum Technologies FSP, assisted by Agora High-Tech Pty Ltd, has developed a program aimed at cultivating the quantum communications ecosystem in Australia.
The first activity in this program was a survey among key stakeholders on quantum communication – universities, private companies, governmental agencies, start-ups and consultants – that many of you contributed to in April 2023. Now, we are excited to start 2024 by sharing with you the Australian Quantum Communications Narrative, including the Australian Quantum Communication Capability Directory. We invite you to take a look, and please send your comments and contributions on the Australian Quantum Communications Narrative and Capability Directory to Stephen Gensemer at CSIRO.
We hope to stimulate an active discussion amongst the quantum communications community ahead of the next stage of our program, the Australian Quantum Communication Forum (AQCF). This 1-day event will be held at The Australian Academy of Sciences Shine Dome, Canberra, from 8.30am to 5.00pm AEDT on 21 March 2024, and we’d love to see you there.
